Stress Testing / Exercise E.C.G.

Stress Testing

Stress Testing, or Exercise E.C.G., is a diagnostic test that assesses the heart's response to physical stress. The patient undergoes the Bruce protocol, which involves progressively increasing exercise intensity while monitoring the patient's heart activity through a continuous 12-lead E.C.G. and blood pressure monitoring.

This test is commonly used to diagnose Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) and evaluate exercise tolerance. It helps identify abnormalities in heart function during exertion, such as depressions in the E.C.G. that may indicate underlying heart disease.

Preparations for Stress Testing / Exercise E.C.G.

  • Avoid Heavy Meals: Do not have a heavy meal before the test to ensure accurate results.
  • Bring a Companion: It is important that the patient does not come alone. Please have a responsible individual accompany you during the test.
  • Bring Medical Records: Please bring along any relevant medical records, including previous E.C.G. results.
  • For Male Patients: Ensure the chest area is well-shaven to facilitate proper placement of the E.C.G. electrodes.
