DEXA SCANNING
Seth Sevana Hospital uses the latest technology in bone density scanning DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry). Examination requires care and technical expertise; our staff are highly trained to ensure accurate readings. The Clinical Osteoporosis Service offers a comprehensive range of screening and consultation. It holds clinics where patients have their bone density measured and examined by the Consultant Metabolic Physician for a full assessment and treatment plan.
What is Dexa Scanning?
A DEXA scan, also known as a bone density scan, is a medical imaging test that uses low-level x-rays to measure bone density.
How to prepare for it?
Stop taking calcium supplements at least a day before your scan. Wear loose and comfortable clothing without any metal detailing such as zips or metal buttons. Avoid wearing jewellery or watches

ECHO CARDIOGRAPHY
The use of Ultra sounds as a diagnostic tool to study the structure and the motion of the heart. It is non evasive procedure that does not cause the patient any discomfort. Studies are performed by doctors and/or technicians.

ENDOSCOPY

LAPERESCOPY
Laparoscopy is an operation performed in the abdomen or pelvis using small incisions with the aid of a camera. The laparoscope aids diagnosis or therapeutic interventions with a few small cuts in the abdomen.

EX ECG
The patient undergoes a standardized (Bruce) protocol on increasing exercise with continuous 12 lead ECG and blood pressure monitoring and watches for depressions. This is used to diagnose IHD (Ischemic Heart Disease), assessment of exercise tolerance etc. Preparations for Stress Testing / Exercise E.C.G. Avoid a heavy meal before the test. Do not come alone. Please have a responsible individual accompany the patient. Please bring along with you all medical records and previous E.C.G.'s. Male patient should have the chest area well shaven.

HOLTER MONITOR
Continuous recording of one or two ECG leads may be obtained by attaching them to a small portable tape recorder. This is useful in detecting transient episodes of arrhythmia or iscemia (heart diseases), which seldom occurs in 12 lead ECG recordings.

DIGITAL X-RAY
What is it used for? X-rays can be used to detect a range of conditions in most areas of the body; most commonly in bones and joints, lungs, etc.
What to expect during an x-ray exam? X-rays are a type of radiation that pass through the body. During the exam, a detector captures xrays passed through the body and transforms them into an image. The parts where the x-rays don’t pass through easily like bone show up as white and the black areas are the soft tissues. This exam will be carried out by experienced radiographers.
How do I prepare for my X-ray? Usually there is no special preparation needed. It is advisable to wear loose clothing and avoid wearing jewellery or clothes containing metal zips or details.
How safe is it? X-ray carries a certain amount of exposure risk to radiation. The use of low levels of radiation means the risk is minimal. Pregnant women should avoid undergoing x-rays. If your doctor recommends an x-ray and you are pregnant, please notify the staff immediately.

SLEEP APENIA TEST
Tests to detect sleep apnea include: Nocturnal polysomnography. During this test, you're hooked up to equipment that monitors your heart, lung and brain activity, breathing patterns, arm and leg movements, and blood oxygen levels while you sleep.

ULTRA SOUND SCANNING
The Radiology Department is visited by the best consultant Radiologists in the country. The test uses sound waves to detect organs and functions of organs. A controlled beam is directed into the body and the echoes of the reflected Ultra Sounds are used to build up an electronic image of various structures of the body. It is used in Obstetrics, first line of abdominal organs and cardiac lesions.

2D SCANNING
This is the conventional and most traditional form of scan during pregnancy. This produces a black and white image that shows your baby’s skeletal make-up and internal organs. They allow sonographers to get all the information needed to check your baby’s well-being as well as the sex of your baby if you and your partner wish to find out.

PTA
What is a PTA? Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) is a procedure that can open up a blocked blood vessel using a small, flexible plastic tube, or catheter, with a "balloon" at the end of it. When the tube is in place, it inflates to open the blood vessel, or artery, so that normal blood flow is restored.

EMG/NCT
Electromyography (EMG) measures muscle response or electrical activity in response to a nerve’s stimulation of the muscle. The test is used to help detect neuromuscular abnormalities. During the test, one or more small needles (also called electrodes) are inserted through the skin into the muscle.

EEG
An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that measures electrical activity in the brain using small, metal discs (electrodes) attached to the scalp. Brain cells communicate via electrical impulses and are active all the time, even during asleep.
